Andy Kalli

Andy, raised in London by hardworking Greek Cypriot parents, experienced a unique upbringing among three siblings. A traumatic event at age five significantly altered his behavior and personality, leading him to wear a metaphorical mask through childhood and adolescence. Married at 18 and a father of three, Andy’s life took a dark turn at 29, descending into a 24-year battle with criminality, drug addiction, and multiple relapses. However, his journey to recovery was remarkable. Supported by the NA fellowship, therapy, and his family, he overcame his addiction and began to rebuild his life.

Determined to make a difference, Andy focused on education. He completed an introductory course in Person Centered Counseling, gained insights from renowned psychologists, and took an online course on the mind. Volunteering at a Drug and Alcohol Clinic, he passed the OCN peer mentoring course and a Level 3 diploma in child adverse experiences. Securing a place in a London college boosted his confidence, leading to a first-class honors degree in Psychology with Substance Use and Misuse.

Andy’s professional journey is impressive. He served as the Lived Experience Coordinator for the Forward Trust, working with probation clients and training volunteers. His role in prisons and probation showcased his motivational interviewing skills and ability to connect with clients. As a counselor in a residential rehab, he delivered workshops and one-on-one counseling, helping people maintain their recovery.

Recently appointed as Centre Manager, Andy is actively introducing new strategies. His message to fellow addicts is one of hope and empowerment: “If I can do it, anyone can.”

Andy’s life is not just about work; he enjoys football (supporting Spurs), cooking, and spending time with his family, humorously noting his superiors’ support for Arsenal as the only downside.
