Detoxification usually takes a maximum of 2 weeks.

During the course of this, a focal counsellor will be allocated to the case who together with the medical team and patient prepare an initial assessment of the latter’s particular needs, psychological state and circumstances.

An on-going care plan is mounted on this basis.

Light involvement in the daily group therapy sessions is initiated and the concept of acceptance (Step 1 of the Twelve Step Programme) is addressed.

The Perry Clayman Clinic’s philosophy is that addiction is an illness.

Alcohol Detoxification

Our project was established and devised to treat people’s addiction to drugs and alcohol and to help those who abuse such chemicals and stimulants by incorporating the best abstinence methods that are currently available. Through a twelve step structure we can deliver this treatment over four stages, and on average the treatment takes at least twelve weeks to be fully completed. Where we may differ from other similar programs is that ours can be tailored to meet the requirements of the individual patient and in either of our alcohol detox centres we will custom make everything, from initial assessment through the detoxification process and on to graduation. We have learnt over the years that it is vital to offer patients the right blend of a high degree of freedom with a high degree of support and by following this methodology the slow and steady process of repairing patients’ self-esteem, self respect and dignity via the sympathetic monitoring of their continued progress can start. When patients first arrive at our clinic a registered GP will carry out an examination to determine what detoxification will be most appropriate, if indeed it is required at all. The process of detoxification covers a range of mind and mood altering chemicals ranging from opiates and stimulants to alcohol, barbiturates and solvents. Our alcohol detox facility has all the necessary facilities to ensure that clients’ health levels can be regularly monitored so that during this critical period they suffer no medical problems.

Alcohol Detox UK

We are of the opinion that the therapeutic process can not be started until clients are completely substance free. This is why we try and detoxify our clients as quickly as possible but without putting any pressure on them. It can take anything up to ten days to be fully detoxified and once clean, clients can look forward to living without a dependence on drugs or alcohol. In terms of the latter, people have been using and abusing alcohol for thousands of years and is the most widely used depressant on earth. For reasons that vary from hygiene and medicinal to religious and recreational, alcoholic beverages have been consumed by humans since pre-historic times. The treatment methods used in our alcohol detox centers address a range of physical issues and mental health problems as we believe that addiction has nothing to do with willpower or morals but is a disease that can be classified as being chronic, progressive and even incurable. However, with the correct treatments there is a very good and very real chance that the disease can be stopped so that clients can start to lead a normal and fulfilled life. Associated problems related to the abuse of alcohol in terms of consuming large doses that result in intoxication and drunkenness, are respiratory failure or death and has a range of other medical repercussions. As it also impairs judgement it can also often result in reckless and irresponsible behaviour that can have all manner of adverse consequences.

Treating an Illness

The first stage of detoxification and assessment begins not only with a thorough examination to ensure the most appropriate and useful regime of detoxification is prescribed, but also an observation of clients’ overall health levels to make sure that they are in no immediate danger. In most cases it is necessary to prescribe medicines to ensure that clients withdrawal from chemicals and stimulants is done comfortably and as easily as possible. Throughout the alcohol detox treatment period, which takes no more than around two weeks, clients are allocated a focal counsellor who will prepare an initial assessment of their needs in conjunction with the medical team and will do this whilst making note of their psychological state and circumstances. On this basis an on-going care plan is initiated, which will include daily group therapy sessions initially only with light involvement, and clients will also have to address the concept of acceptance. During this initial period the introduction of our philosophy is introduced, which is that addiction is simply an illness. As a result we try and make patients understand that they are not bad people trying to become good, rather sick people trying to get better. All of our groups are facilitated by qualified members of the alcohol detox clinics counselling teams, and at this time former patients who have successfully completed the program of treatment and who have been sober for at least one year also offer their support to the current crop of clients.

Superior Support

Former patients, which we refer to as buddies, are only allowed to come back and work as volunteers if they have graduated from the Project and have been able to maintain sobriety for at least one year. It is essential that they have also attended the Aftercare facility that we offer during that year of being sober. In the treatment sessions that our clients participate in, these buddies will share their own personal experiences of how they dealt with the process of detoxification and how they managed to complete the treatment and then remain clean and sober. You can find alcohol detox online stories about people that have managed to successfully stay sober, but having these stories being told face-to-face is a far more rewarding experience. Buddies are also used to introduce the newcomers to various self-help groups such as Narcotics Anonymous, Cocaine Anonymous and the best known of all Alcoholics Anonymous. The purpose of the buddy system is to provide both motivation and hope and to help instil belief into our clients that success is a real possibility and well within their grasp. Once this first stage of treatment, which we refer to as detoxification, has been completed clients are presented with a certificate and then inducted into the second stage. If you are looking for alcohol detox programs for either yourself or someone that you care about, please make contact with us at your earliest convenience and we will provide a fast and easy confidential consultation.

Recovery is in your Own Hands

Stage Two of the Program lasts anywhere between four and six weeks and the intensive treatment that clients go through is achieved by using the Twelve-Step program. Treatment includes group therapy sessions, one-to-one counselling and psychotherapy, anger management groups, goal setting, peer evaluation reviews, daily diary discussions, lectures and video presentations, nutritional guidance programs, family sessions and other special interest groups. The aims and objectives of steps two to five of the alcohol detox programmes are also introduced, made up of belief in others, trust and faith as tools of recovery, the reality of the past, and finally reality. Clients who are in stage two of the treatment will begin to appreciate that recovery is very much an achievable target and will have nurtured both trust in themselves and others. Clients will also have started to grasp a perspective of their own reality, strengthened their self-esteem, and an acceptable value system will have started to emerge. The objective and purpose of Stage Three of the treatment program is to build on these foundations, which will continue along a similar format but with the emphasis on reality increased. What this means is that clients will be shown how to translate their past and present into a future that is both meaningful and socially acceptable. At our alcohol detox facilities, clients will be made aware at this stage of the treatment that the principal at the core of this is personal responsibility for their own recovery, which is achieved by self-acceptance.

Custom Made Solutions

For those with a career, family or other lifestyle commitments and who do not have the spare time to commit to the full twelve week course, an intensive eight week program of treatment is available. This fast track rehab program is made up of the key ingredients of the longer course and includes such things as detox, identifying addiction behaviours and problems, and breaking down relaxation and denial therapies. As one of the leading alcohol detox UK organisations we are confident that you will be more than satisfied with the fast track program as it contains all the vital elements necessary for a successful outcome. The only way that it differs is that clients work more intensively and as a result progress at a quicker rate, with more one-to-one time spent with our counsellors to help speed up the recovery process. Completion of the Twelve Step Program is the ultimate aim of this intensive eight week rehab program, and as such clients are encouraged to remain in contact with appropriate external fellowships so that they can continue their twelve step work and remain in recovery after they graduate from the program. We are one of the few clinics that offer family intervention and if you know of a family member that is refusing to accept help for their addiction you may want to consider using this method to start the process of alcohol detoxification as quickly as possible and make sure they realise that they need professional help and care.
