2CB and 2C-T-7

2CB and 2C-T-7 have similar hallucinogenic effects to LSD and are stimulants like ecstasy. They were developed by US chemist Alexander Shulgin who was behind MDMA. These drugs are comparatively new to the UK drug scene. 2CB in particular is often taken as a substitute for ecstasy or alongside it to prolong the high. They are normally sold in pill form which is then swallowed, but can also come as a white powder which can then be snorted. The effects of these drugs usually kick in within an hour and can last from 4 to 8 hours.

It is not uncommon for people to take several at one time. The more someone takes however, the more intense and out of control the experience can become. Both 2CB and 2C-T-7 make the user feel more energetic; much like ecstasy. They induce a trip experience similar to LSD causing the user to see objects and reality in a distorted way. The user may also have a heightened awareness of sounds, smells, and colours, increased sensitivity and feelings of sexual arousal. Lower doses have effects similar to ecstasy, while higher doses are thought to combine the effects of LSD and ecstasy. Once the high has gone, users often find it difficult to sleep for several hours even though they feel normal otherwise.

It is thought the risks involved in taking 2CB and 2C-T-7 are comparable to ecstasy and LSD. Taking these drugs can cause headaches, nausea and vomiting, panic attacks, and psychotic episodes, while prolonged use can result in someone becoming disorientated, tired and anxious. Also, long-term use can aggravate underlying mental health problems such as depression and schizophrenia. Because 2CB and 2C-T-7, like LSD, enhance your mood, it is not advisable to take them if you are feeling angry or depressed as this can result in a ‘bad trip’. This can be a very frightening experience, especially if you have never taken these kinds of drugs before. Because 2CB and 2C-T-7 are relatively new to the drug scene, it is not yet certain if someone can develop dependence. However, considering the type of drugs they are, they are not likely to be physically addictive.
